Speed Training Exercises: “Falling Starts” to Run Faster

The falling start exercise is a great way to teach the PUSH portion of the first step. READ FOR TWO speed training start variations.

1. In the video you see the first first step quickness variation where the athlete has the punch leg slightly elevated. This is the advanced version that isolates the drive or the push leg for first step quickness. In order to use this speed training exercise to run faster, you have to really PUSH.

2. Start with both feet on the ground. This will allow the athlete to fall into the start, punch with one knee and drive with the other. Always start with this exercise version THEN move to the first only if the athlete has an issue with pushing into his or her first step.

Add this on your sprint days in order to run faster!
